I love these simple kimono cover-ups because they are perfect to wear over a swimsuit, tank top + tights, with a maxi skirt or dress, the list goes on. It’s a go-to garment and it’s SO EASY to sew. You could also make one of these very comfortable kimonos to wear as loungewear. Whatever you decide, make it your own style!
The cover-up in the photo above I created with one yard of ITY knit fabric at a 60″ width. This sewing project took me about an hour – if that. The fabric is quite “slinky” so I had to clip/pin the seams before stitching. I usually wing it, and sometimes it shows. I got away with it this time, but, I think it took longer after all. I used an overcast stitch with the “G” presser foot on the INCREDIBLE Brother Innov-is NQ3500D to complete the seams. (See a photo below.) I did not hem this particular kimono at all. I didn’t feel hemming was necessary given the way the fabric drapes, and the nice smooth edge I was able to cut with a rotary cutter and a fresh razor-sharp blade. I stitched this comfortable kimono together to wear over some t-shirts. I still have approximately .75 of a meter left so I may use it to make one of these skirts.
